Those of you who have been following me on Instagram know I am not back home in Utrecht but actually in beautiful Madrid, together with eldest, who is fully enjoying the wonderful food and shops while his only slightly annoying mother rambles on about the architecture and culture.
This trip is his belated birthday gift and I decided on Madrid after it turned out he just could not bring himself to make a decision regarding the destination (imagine a much repeated ‘Where do you want to go then son?’ over the last couple of months and only getting vague and teenagey mumblings in reply).
It has been 20 years (gasp) since I had last been here and needless to say I am enjoying this immensely. I plan to do a blog post about all we have seen and done on this trip but you will have to be patient with me though as I will not be writing anything for another couple of days: it really was time for a well deserved break and I decided to extend my time off a little bit when I get home.
I leave you with an image of that very famous painting by Velázquez, Las Meninas, which took my breath away this week as much as it did 20 years ago when I saw it for the first time in the lovely company of SOH.
