A day trip to Amsterdam for me would not be complete without a visit to FOAM and next month I’ll be certain to stop by to see the Vivian Maier exhibition. A career nanny in New York, Maier’s extensive work of street photography spans 50 years but was not discovered until shortly before her death in 2009 by John Maloof.

Streetlife captured through a lens speaks to me in volumes and the fact she chose to keep her work hidden for so long adds a touch of the mysterious to her unspoken storytelling.
The subsequent documentary made by Maloof and producer Charlie Siskel titled ‘Finding Vivian Maier’ got shortlisted for the Oscars earlier this month.
